Oliver Bernstein

Advisory Board Member

Oliver is a nonprofit communications professional with over 15 years’ experience helping organizations navigate complex landscapes. He has helped a range of mission-driven groups including Feeding Texas, We Are Blood, the Texas Associations of Community Health Centers, and more. Previously the Director of Communications for Every Texan (formerly CPPP — the Center for Public Policy Priorities), Oliver pioneered proactive marketing and communications strategies to cut through the noise, reach key audiences and improve the lives of Texans. He spearheaded the transformational effort to rename and rebrand the 35-year-old think tank to be social justice-driven, welcoming and inclusive. As a communications strategist and press secretary for the national Sierra Club, America’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, Oliver chose language and strategies that compelled action to boost clean energy and fight environmental injustices. From shining media coverage on the push to close El Paso's dirty copper smelter to training communities in the Lower Rio Grande Valley on how to protect their neighborhoods from toxic chemicals, he helped Texans harness the power of communications. Oliver later served for nearly four years as an elected, volunteer board member of the national Sierra Club, co-leading an effort to develop core values for the organization. And as a former board president of American Gateways, which assists immigrants and refugees in Central Texas, Oliver addressed the challenges facing our vulnerable friends and neighbors.
